Breast Cancer Awareness Chair - Colors of Cancer

I was asked to participate in an event called "Colors of Cancer", which is a dinner and fashion show that is sponsored by the Cancer Warriors. You may remember my past post about it.
In addition to modeling in the fashion show, I also donated a breast cancer awareness chair to the silent auction. I worked on the chair for 4 months, collecting ties, finding the perfect chair, etc.

Before:

It was in terribly bad shape, so in addition to intense sanding, it also needed a good bit of wood putty. I chose a lovely shade of pink to paint the chair, and I painted a pink ribbon on the side before adding 2 coats of polyurethane.
After it was painting, it was time for the seat. I spent a lot of time finding ties with pink in them. This is how the chair turned out.

Close up of the ribbon:

I had a booth with some furniture for sale at the event. (pix to come)

Here are some of the modeling pictures:

This was such a great event. I was honored to be a part of it!

Teal and Gold Key Holder

I've been working on smaller stuff while I work on larger projects.
This little holder was my latest project:

Like usual, I sanded it down and primed it.
Then I painted it a really pretty teal, then used the famous lace pattern. I used gold for that.
This is how it turned out:

I love it so much! I decided to give it to one of my friends for her birthday, who is also re-painting her apartment in shades of green.

I initially painted it for hanging jewelry...

But I decided it looked WAY cooler as a key holder:

Owls

I picked up these ADORABLE little owls the other day.

I decided to paint one of them black, and one of them white.
After I painted them, I realized that the white one was a little dull... So I decided to hand paint it.

This is how they turned out:

I've decided to keep the black one, but the colored one is currently still available for $25.

Dining Room Table Tie Chairs

A few months ago, a friend of mine ordered a set of 4 custom table chairs. He decided that he didn't want matching chairs. He wanted chairs that were the same height, and he wanted 2 of them to have vertical backs and 2 of them to have horizontal backs. After a few weeks of searching, I found the perfect chairs:

Here they are individually:

Eventually, the above chair got replaced. (See below)

Stephen picked out the colors that he wanted, which were 4 different shades of green.
This is after they were sanded, refinished, and painted:

He also decided that he wanted a quote on each one, and he wanted the ties to match the quote.
One has an India theme, with a quote from Mark Twain about Benares. Another is an Irish one, with a quote from "The Dead," by James Joyce. Another chair has the epigraph from Stephen's book. And the fourth has a quote by Dolly Parton.

After applying a couple of coats of polyurethane, I set upon making the tie seats.

(Belle really wanted to help...)

As I got to the 4th, rounded chair, I quickly realized that ties wouldn't work on it. I set out to find a new chair, and found  this one:

I sanded and refinished it, then painted it the previously selected color.

Soon, the lost chair was reunited with it's long, lost family.
This is the whole set!

Stephen bought a glass top table, which really shows off the chairs:

Lace Necklace Rack

One of my new favorite effects is lace. =)

I have experimented with it a couple of times, like here.

I bought a little necklace rack, so I decided to play around with it.

This is how it turned out...

Vanity Seat REDO

A few months back, I made over my vanity seat. (See whole story HERE)

This is how it turned out:

I decided that the fabric didn't work with the style that I wanted in my room. Plus, I need change.

This is how the redo turned out:

I'm EXTREMELY happy with it now...

Custom Coffee Table

I was asked to make a coffee table for a loft space in Atlanta. The walls are brick, but also have a beautiful gray in it. I decided to use that color for inspiration. This is what the walls look like:

I found a great coffee table at a thrift store. It had a LOT of personality and I instantly loved it.

It also had some pretty cheesy paintings on the cabinet doors.

The top of the table was in pretty bad shape.

Some more BEFORE views:

The entire piece had uneven surfaces, so I sanded it down entirely. It also took quite a bit of reshaping before I applied the primer.
I painted most of piece a gorgeous steel gray color.

I obviously love steel gray...

Magazine Rack
My Bedroom

For the top and cabinet doors, I used chalkboard paint that matched the original color.
It turned out REALLY great!

I decided to keep the original hardware on it.
